JonJen Report

Hello from beautiful San Carlos, weather is warming along with the water..Out in front right now the water temps are in the mid 60´s and getting warmer everyday...Looking at the sea temps we are only 60 miles from Billfish and Dorado...Heard from one of the Capt's a Guaymas Pangero came in with 1100 kilos of Dorado last week.... A lot of fish on a hand line right...I will not get started on the subject but would like to offer a link for you to read more about their life cycle and why this is a huge problem. Hopefully, with education, things will change and be a better year for these wonderful creatures. If we don't begin to act more responsibly NOW, there won't be any left for future fishing. Help spread the word. Now back to fishing...

Started the week with divers from California who were free diving at the Island, getting some Pargo and small Yellowtails..They had a ball and were doing this for the fun and enjoyment of the sea...Monday saw Roberto out doing his magic for some snowbirds wanting only bottom fish...Happy fisherman are repeat customers...Jonjen 2 out with Abel wishing he had a spear gun because the fish were everywhere and they wouldn't take a thing...Finally going out in the afternoon getting two big Yellowtail...

Couple days off then out again - still fish everywhere, with tons of bait and the fish getting ready to spawn...big fish and heard of few people getting broken off...Fishing south and got a couple Pangeros mad at us they were claiming it was their area.. Didn't know you could get a title to a piece of ocean...(think they where getting ready to push the fish in to net) just my hunch...Anyway fish were there and just were not hitting...feeling lucky to just get one on...The Island is getting to be the best spot - not a lot of large fish but they are there...getting a lot of great bottom fish and small Yellowtails...Finished up the week with a scuba, fish and dive trip with the folks from New Mexico having a ball...and Roberto getting one nice Grouper 35lb and white fish...

Until next week hopefully with pictures...cheers Jon and Jen and the animal family...

FYI....Below is a link to a article on the growth rate of Dorado here is a brief clip of the article....this explains why I TRY to release all females...Please click on link below to read more!

Dolphin are known to be sexually mature as small as 14 inches in fork length, with all fish reaching sexually maturity by the time they are 22 inches in fork length.. A Florida study calculated that a female 39 inches in fork length produces roughly 555,000 eggs per spawn with a .03-2% survival rate. Calculations every month she spawns gives us approx. 1700-11,200 more fish..ea month...
